Budapest Private Guide

Photo Budapest GuideMy name is Andrea – I am a licensed, private guide in Budapest, Hungary .  I arrange private tours to give all those details you cannot read in a book!  If you would like to learn a lot about Budapest , the history, the culture, the traditions and everyday life of Hungarians the best is to come with me on a private tour and get a more in depth experience!

My City or Region - Budapest is a glamorous city with a fascinating history.  Would you like to wander on the cobblestones of the old castle district, enjoy breath-taking views from the Fishermen’s Bastion, cross the blue (not always) Danube on the beautiful Chain bridge, visit the incredible halls of the Parliament or the State Opera House, feel tiny while standing on gigantic Heroes’ Square, relax in Gellért Bath or sit in a coffee house to watch how the sun goes down behind the majestic Royal Palace?  You will find all these in Budapest and much more ….

About Me – I am a native Hungarian and have worked as a licensed, private guide since 1995.  I have a University educational background and I speak English and Spanish.  I love my work and I am very enthusiastic to show people all the beauty in Budapest and Hungary which was forgotten for 50 years!

Special Interest Tours - I hope that all of my tours are special in a way.  I always tailor each tour according to the interests of the visitors.  You can discover or learn tiny little details about which only a local would know.  I do mostly walking tours for individual travelers as that is the best way to get to know a city well but if it is necessary I can arrange a car, van or bus of any size for groups and conduct tours outside of Budapest as well.  Special tours are: walking tours in Budapest with the most unusual itineraries according to your interest and the Jewish heritage tour which includes the visit to the world’s famous Dohány Synagogue, the Jewish cemetery and the Raul Wallenberg Garden with the Holocaust Memorial.

How to choose a tour?
In case you like and you are able to walk I recommend the walking tours in Budapest as that is the best way to really get to know a city. Two half day tours or a full day tour can give you a nice introduction to the city.

In case you do not like to walk or for tours outside of the city I recommend using a minivan.  I use reliable air-conditioned minivan for all tours which are driven by a professional driver.  This way we do not have to worry about where to park the van, how to get to our destination, I can only concentrate on you and our conversation and you may relax and concentrate on the beautiful sights and let our driver worry about the heavy traffic conditions or parking problems.  This way all the tours are comfortable, fun, relaxing but first of all safe! The minivan has the capacity for up to six persons.

If you are fortunate to allow yourself more time in Hungary it is a great idea to spend some time outside of the capital by visiting some countryside areas. (Szentendre, Danube Bend, Lake Balaton etc.)  These tours are also conducted by the help of a minivan and a professional driver.

My Prices

Walking tours
By a walking tour you really get to see the “real” city and the tiny little things you’d miss if you were sitting in a vehicle.  The walking tours are usually combined with using some public transportation (tram, bus or underground) as Budapest is a quite large city and the sights are spread out, so this way you would still have the energy to go on after the tours.
Half day walking tour (4 hours): 115USD / 23000HUF
Full day walking tour (7-8hours): 195USD / 39000HUF
(The price includes guiding services however excludes the cost of public transportation and entrance fees. The price is per tour not per person.)

Tours by air-conditioned minivan with driver in or outside of Budapest
Let me take care of everything for you!  While sitting in an air-conditioned minivan which is driven by a professional driver you may relax and enjoy your tour without having to worry about traffic or your personal safety!
Half day tour by minivan (4 hours):   195USD / 39000HUF
Full day tour by minivan (7-8 hours): 325USD/ 65000HUF
(The price includes guide services, air-conditioned minivan driven by a professional driver, parking fees but excludes entrance fees. The price is per tour not per person.)

My Past Guest's Comments

"We spent 2 half days in Budapest with Andrea and a driver.  We saw so much and learned so much about this beautiful city's past and present.  She tailored the tours to our interests and energy levels and was a delight to be with.  Thank you again." Linda T., Carmichael California, November 2006

"We spent a full day with Andrea and a driver and it was the best way to see Budapest.  She is delightful, interesting, informative and just fun to be with.  I look forward to meeting you again some day."  Steven Hurley, Elk Grove, CA, December 2005

"My wife and I took a Danube River cruise beginning in Budapest in October, 2005. Fortunately, we came to Budapest a day earlier than the start of our cruise and engaged Andrea as our guide. Andrea was very familiar with the brief tours that the river cruise companies offer and suggested how we could spend a few hours with her that would not duplicate the Budapest city tour, but would give us a greater perspective of the historical, cultural and religious aspects of life in Budapest. She more than delivered on that arrangement. Walking, taking a tram, using the Underground and city bus lines she gave us a wonderful overview of Budapest that we never would have known about had we simply taken the tour that our river cruise company arranged. Andrea speaks perfect idiomatic English, having attended an English speaking school and also studying in England after completing college studies in Budapest. She has a wonderful engaging and interactive style and we would unhesitatingly recommend using Andrea as your personal guide when in Budapest."  Jacob and Sheila Romo, North Reading, MA, USA

"We want you to know Andrea in Budapest is the best private guide we have ever had.  She was warm and knowledgeable and we saw so much with her.  She speaks perfect English as well." Nancy M., Corpus Christi, Texas, July 2005

"In Hungary I had the pleasure of the private guide for a day, Andrea.   I was born in Hungary, but lived in Australia for the past 35 years, I discovered many interesting things. I never been to the synagogue before. The parliament tour was great, the day was very good. Interesting and very friendly.  Thank you very much for a lovely experience." J. Gedeon, South Australia, April 2005
