Tips About Guides

Pick a Guide

If we have more than one guide listed in a city, please pick your favorite and send a request. Sending the same request to multiple guides will lower the validity of your request.

Send a Request

Click the guide's email address to open an email. Do not alter the email address or subject line or your email may not reach the guide. Make your request as specific as possible.

Driving Tours

If you are considering a driving tour, please note the difference between a "driver" and a "driver guide." Drivers are professional chauffeurs while driver guides are trained about historical sights and provide commentary.

License

Many countries require guides to be licensed, especially if the guide is entering a museum with you. Before you confirm with a guide, please ask if they have a valid license to enter museums. They should carry or wear this license during your private tour.

Transport, Entrances and Taxes

Transportation and entrance fees are not usually included in private tours. In some cities or countries, you may also need to pay a tax. Please confirm these details with your guide while making your arrangements.

Tipping

Most guides we list are self employed and tips are greatly appreciated. A customary tip is 10-15% of the total. You will likely embarrass your guide if you ask them how much to tip.
